METRANS to construct third terminal in Hungary

Intermodal freight transport company METRANS is set to start the construction of its third Hungarian terminal, the new rail/road logistics hub in Szeged will have a 300,000 TEU capacity.

The EUR 16.2 million investment, supported by the HIPA Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency, will open a new gateway for international freight in Hungary’s southern region. Through the METRANS network, the terminal will provide direct rail access to Europe’s ports and support the operations of major manufacturers of the region, including Chinese giant BYD, which is building its first European car plant in Szeged.

METRANS is engaged in intermodal freight transport as a subsidiary of the Germany-based HHLA (Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG), serving the transportation needs of various European countries with its railroad system and container terminal network. The company offers efficient and environment-friendly logistics solutions to its customers in Central and Eastern Europe, as part of the container freight transportation service provided in Europe's leading ports.

METRANS opened its first Hungarian terminal in Budapest in 2017, the second one is under construction in Zalaegerszeg, western Hungary.
