The foundation stone has been laid for Rheinmetall's new factory in Szeged, which will be built with an investment of EUR 63 million. This will be the fourth Hungarian site of the German defense company and its first hybrid site where civil and defense products will be manufactured in one location. The project will create 300 new high added value jobs.
The Szeged site, which is part of Rheinmetall's Power Systems division, is being built by a consortium of Rheinmetall's domestic subsidiaries (Rheinmetall Advanced Technology Solutions Kft., Rheinmetall Polycharge Hungary Kft., and Rheinmetall Real Estate SPS Kft.). The fourth site in Hungary is unique as production capacity is shared between the civil business units and defense technology.
The EUR 63 million investment aims primarily at manufacturing products for the automotive business unit, including electrical components and products for the use of hydrogen in mobility and energy generation. The plant will not produce explosives, munitions or weapons.
The 15,000 square meter production hall will start trial operation in 2025 and will employ 300 highly skilled workers.
